Why is this site so slow?

We currently have a minor problem with our hosting of this website, which affects access from some countries outside of Europe. We are working on a new hosting solution, most likely in the US.

For users in Central Europe the site should react with normal response times between 500ms and 1500ms until pages are completely rendered on the browser. We are actively working on optimizing this, documented here.
